Tidelines, Miscellania Performance
2024

Tidelines  was shot  on the land of  the Brataualung people of the Gunaikurnai nation. As an artist working on unceded land, I am deeply gratfeul to experience Brataualung country and sea.  I pay my respects to Brataualung people, and their elders past and present. A statement from the Brataualung people that resonates strongly with the work: “We see no distinction between the land and the sea. It is all a part of our Country.”

Still from Tidelines Video
Still from performance, featuring dancer Eloise Wright
Rocks become cameras as ropes become limbs. ‘Tidelines’ exposes a world of animate forms, where encounters between human and non-human bodies call for new modes of action and directionality. Collaborating with sound artist Bridget Chappell (Hextape), dancers Anika De Ruyter and Eloise Wright, video artist Sofie McClure present a performance in which the screens become dancing partners and the dancers extensions of the screen. Controlled by ropes, the mobile screens shift in organization, calling upon the audience to carve their own path through and behind the image.
